Laser-MIG Hybrid Welding

Laser-MIG hybrid welding combines laser beam and MIG welding to achieve deep penetration and gap bridging.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Laser-MIG hybrid welding uses the high energy input of the laser for deeper penetration and the MIG process for bridging gaps. The laser cuts the material ahead, while the MIG wire joins it.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This method allows welding of heavy steels and high-temperature resistant materials with high precision. However, an uneven energy flow between laser and MIG can cause stresses and cracks in the weld.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use a laser welder with a MIG wire. Ensure the energy inputs of the laser and the MIG arc are optimized. Start with low laser power and increase it slowly. Watch for even overlap of laser and MIG effects.
