Laser micro fusion welding

Laser micro welding is a precise, low-energy welding process for fine components in medical and electronics. It delivers deep weld quality without altering material structure.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Laser micro-spot welding uses a high-intensity laser beam to create a very small molten zone. The laser pulse melts the metal in short intervals, minimally altering the material structure and preserving mechanical properties.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This process is especially suitable for fine components with tight spacing or materials with low thermal conductivity. It reduces the risk of porosity and increases weld toughness. However, incorrect laser parameters (e.g., too high energy) can cause overheating or changes in the material structure, leading to cracks or loss of strength.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Laser micro-spot welding requires a special laser system. The laser energy (in watts) and melt duration (in milliseconds) must be set precisely. High energy can cause overheating, while too low energy won't melt the material enough. Recommended parameters vary by material, but typically melt duration is 0.1 to 1 ms.
