Laser Powder Cladding Deposition

A metallurgical coating process in which metallic powder is melted onto a base material using a laser beam. It produces a metallurgically bonded, low-dilution protective layer against wear and corrosion.

In laser cladding, the laser beam melts the supplied powder together with the surface of the base material. This creates a dense, metallurgically bonded layer. The powder jet must hit the laser focus point precisely, otherwise the layer becomes irregular or doesn't bond properly. Don't move too fast, otherwise you won't get a clean bond, and let the part cool down slowly afterwards to prevent distortion. The powder amount and feed rate must be readjusted for each material and component geometry.
