Coaxial Powder Laser cladding
Laser powder cladding with coaxial nozzle: Powder is fed concentrically around the laser beam and melted at the focal point. This enables directional coating with minimal thermal delay.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Laser powder cladding uses a high-intensity laser beam to melt the material. Powder is simultaneously fed through a coaxial nozzle and mixed with the molten material at the focal point. This results in a fast, precise weld with minimal distortion of the material.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This process offers high accuracy and minimal thermal impact on the surrounding area. It reduces the risk of cracks and improves the mechanical properties of the weld. However, incorrect settings of powder feed or laser parameters can lead to uneven distortion or excessive fume generation.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
• Laser parameters: Watch the energy and duration of the laser pulse. Too much energy can cause overheating and burning, while too little energy results in insufficient melting.
• Powder feed: Controls the amount of powder fed through the coaxial nozzle. Too little powder can lead to an incomplete weld, while too much powder causes excess and potential fume issues.
• Temperature control: Make sure the material is in the optimal temperature range for cladding. Too high or too low a temperature can affect weld quality.
