Laser Powder Cladding of Special Alloys
A generative joining process for applying wear-resistant super duplex or Inconel layers using focused laser radiation and metallic powder. It is characterized by minimal thermal distortion of the base material.
In laser powder cladding, you feed metal powder to the melt pool through a nozzle, where it melts and forms a new layer on the base material. The advantage is low heat input, so the part hardly warps and the base material zone remains largely unchanged. You must match the laser power and powder feed rate precisely, otherwise you get pores or poor bonding. Make sure the nozzle is not too close to the workpiece and the powder stream is properly focused. And remember: the process is not for quick dabbing; you need steady, even guidance.
