Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition
Laser powder wire deposition welding is a build-up process where metal powder is fed into the melt pool via a laser melting jet. It is used for making complex, fine structures.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
A laser beam melts the metal and forms a deep keyhole. Simultaneously, powder is fed through a nozzle jet and pushed into the melt pool, where it cools and solidifies. This process repeats to build layers.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Structural accuracy depends on powder fineness and laser parameters. Incorrect settings can cause uneven layers or porosity, weakening the part. Excessive speeds can lead to distortion or cracking.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use high-quality powder and calibrate the laser for the specific materials. Keep the deposition speed constant and monitor temperature and pressure settings closely. Test settings before production runs to ensure defect-free structures.
