Laser Remote Cutting
Laser remote cutting is a high-speed cutting process where the laser beam is guided over the workpiece. It enables precise cuts with minimal material waste.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The laser beam is fired at the workpiece via a galvo mirror, heating it so quickly that the metal ignites and melts in a fraction of a second. Rapid cooling leaves a narrow, smooth cut edge.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This process is especially suitable for precision applications because it is accurate and controlled. However, rapid cooling can cause localized stresses, which in extreme cases can lead to cracking or shear fractures. Additionally, the process is expensive and requires special safety measures.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use remote laser cutting for precise cuts in thin metal parts. Make sure the galvo mirror is correctly adjusted and safety measures are followed. Laser speed and workpiece thickness must be precisely set for optimal cut quality.
