Laser beam cutting

Laser cutting is a high-energy thermal process where a photon beam melts the material and it is removed with a gas jet. It offers extremely narrow kerfs and high precision.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism

Laser cutting uses a focused photon beam that heats the material locally to its melting point. A coaxial gas jet then blows the molten mass out of the kerf.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Laser cutting is ideal for delicate or fine work because it gives narrow kerfs and high contour accuracy. However, local overheating of the surrounding area can cause distortion if you don't control it carefully.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use laser cutting for fine jobs or on delicate parts. Make sure the laser power and gas jet are set correctly. Avoid overheating the surrounding area to prevent distortion.
