Laser Sensor Based Seam Tracking
A laser sensor measures the gap size in real time and corrects path deviations of the robot to ensure a precise weld.
Physical-Chemical Working Principle
A laser sensor emits a light beam that bounces off the joint and returns. The time for the light beam to return is measured. This measurement gives the precise position and size of the joint.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The precise measurement of the joint by the laser sensor prevents the robot from deviating from its path, which could lead to unequal weld thickness. This can cause stress concentrations and potential cracks in the component. Faulty calibration or a defective sensor can lead to further quality issues.
Workshop Practice & Operating Instructions
Ensure that the laser sensor is regularly calibrated and that the measurement works correctly. Check the sensor settings before welding for accuracy. Make sure the sensor is clean and free from interference that could affect the measurement.
