Laser beam diffusion welding
Laser beam diffusion welding is a thermal process for surface connection of components under temperature and mechanical pressure, where diffusion processes occur at the interfaces. It produces a fine-structured weld with low hardness.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The laser beam delivers a strong, concentrated beam onto the parts to be joined. The energy of the laser heats the metal in short time intervals up to the melting point. During cooling, atoms from the two metals diffuse into each other, forming a homogeneous joint.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The fine structure and low hardness of the weld make laser beam diffusion welding particularly suitable for applications with high mechanical loads. However, imprecise laser focusing can lead to uneven joints or overheating, which can cause damage to the parts.
Workshop Practice & Operating Instructions
Use a high-quality laser welding machine with precise focusing. Make sure the parts are clean and dry. Keep the laser welding head constantly moving to ensure a uniform joint. Settings such as laser power and travel speed must be adjusted according to the material and application.
