Laser Beam Welding in Wobble Mode
Oscillating laser welding uses a special focusing that guides the laser focus over the weld pool in a predefined pattern. This allows closing larger gaps and reducing pore concentration.
Physical-Chemical Working Mechanism
In oscillation mode, the laser focus rapidly moves between two positions above the weld pool. This distributes the energy across the workpiece and enables even penetration.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The distributed energy reduces local hardness and avoids porosity. However, a faulty focus or too high frequency can cause uneven penetration and stress concentration, leading to cracks and damage in the workpiece.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
To successfully perform laser welding in oscillation mode, the laser focus must be precisely aligned with the workpiece. Frequency and amplitude of the oscillation need to be set according to material and gap size. A setting of 10-20 Hz for frequency and 5-10 µm for amplitude is a good starting point.
