number of cycles
The number of load cycles indicates how often a material has been loaded under the same stress. It helps determine the service life of components.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Fatigue life counts the number of repeated loads a material undergoes. Each cycle causes microscopic damage that accumulates.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Too high a load cycle count can lead to fatigue and fracture of the material. This is especially relevant for components under high stress, such as in machinery or aircraft.
Workshop Practice & Actions
For lifetime determination, fatigue life is measured with maximum stress or force. Example: A material can withstand 10^6 load cycles at a stress of 200 MPa before it breaks.
