Light Based 3D Contour Detection
Light-based 3D contour sensing uses laser or camera to precisely capture the joint and create a 3D height profile for path planning. This allows accurate handling of sheet edge misalignment.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Light-based 3D contour detection uses either structured laser lines or camera transmission to scan the surface of the joint. The scanner projects a light pattern onto the material and measures the reflections to detect geometric deviations.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This technique is especially useful for complex joints or when there are strongly varying plate edge offsets. It helps create accurate path plans and improve weld quality. However, a faulty scan can lead to inaccurate data, which in turn can result in poor joints or cracks.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
To successfully use light-based 3D contour detection, the following steps must be observed:
1. Calibrate the device: Make sure the scanner is properly aligned and calibrated.
2. Prepare the joint: Remove any dust or grease residues from the joint to ensure a clear reflection.
3. Perform the scan: Project the light pattern onto the joint and capture the height profile.
4. Check the data: Check the captured data for noise or missing information and correct the path plans if necessary.
