Arc Stud Welding with Ceramic Ferrule

Arc stud welding with ceramic ferrule shapes the weld pool and protects against oxidation. The ferrule is removed after solidification.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The arc generates high heat, forming a weld pool in the bolt length of the metal. The ceramic ring shapes this pool and protects it from oxygen, preventing porosity.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

A missing or damaged ceramic ring can cause oxidation, leading to porosity and weak points in the weld. Incorrect ring shaping can affect the microstructure and reduce hardness.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Make sure the ceramic ring is clean and fits correctly on the bolt length. Keep the arc so it covers the entire weld pool. Cool the weld slowly to get a uniform structure. Remove the ring carefully after solidification.
