Arc Pressure Distribution in the Weld Pool

The spatial distribution of the plasma pressure exerted by the arc on the liquid weld pool creates a local depression in the pool surface. This force component significantly determines the depth and shape of penetration at high welding speeds.

The arc pressure pushes on the weld pool and deforms the surface. This affects how deep the weld penetrates and how the pool flows. If you travel too fast or don't maintain a clean distance, penetration becomes irregular, and you risk porosity or cracks. Keep speed constant and distance to the pool stable, then the pressure distributes evenly. Also watch the shielding gas pressure to keep the pool calm and not too deformed.
