Arc Sensor System
Arc sensing is a system that uses electrical parameters like current and voltage from the GMAW process to control torch position relative to the joint sidewall. It often eliminates the need for separate optical sensors.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Arc sensing measures electrical signals that arise during the gas-shielded process (MIG, TIG). These signals depend on the torch position and the material. By analyzing these signals, the system can determine the exact torch position.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The correct torch position is decisive for a high-quality weld. Wrong positioning can lead to uneven heat input, pore formation or insufficient penetration. Arc sensing minimizes these risks through automatic adjustment of the torch position.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
To use arc sensing effectively, make sure the electrical lines between sensor and welding machine are correctly connected. Check the sensors regularly for corrosion or damage. With positioning problems, first check the sensor calibration and make sure there are no interfering factors like metal dust.
