Manual Metal Arc Welding with Basic Coating

A manual metal arc welding process using a coated electrode with predominantly basic oxides, yielding low-hydrogen weld metal. This effectively prevents cold cracking in high-strength steels.

Basic stick electrodes are for when you're welding high-strength steel and don't want cold cracks. The coating keeps hydrogen out of the weld zone, which would otherwise embrittle the structure and cause cracks. It's important that the electrode is dry and you guide it properly, otherwise the weld metal becomes porous or you get cracks.
