Arc Stabilizer
Arc stabilizers are additives with low ionization potential that ease electron transfer in the plasma and ensure a stable arc at low voltages.
Physical-Chemical Working Mechanism
Arc stabilizers are chemical additives added to the welding consumable. They have a low ionization potential and facilitate electron transfer in the arc gas plasma. This results in a more stable and quieter arc, even at low open-circuit voltages.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Without stabilizers, the arc can become unstable at low voltages, leading to irregular welding and potential cracks. Stabilizers keep the arc constant and controlled, which improves weld quality.
Shop Practice & Operating Instructions
Use arc stabilizers in the welding consumable when low open-circuit voltages are required. Add normally 0.1 to 0.5 % of the stabilizing additives to the gas plasma. Always monitor the voltage and arc behavior to ensure it remains stable.
