Arc-Stabilizing Powder
Arc stabilizing powder contains chemical additives that stabilize the plasma stream and increase its conductivity. This improves weld quality and prevents failures.
Physical-Chemical Working Mechanism
The arc-stabilizing powder contains metals such as lithium, potassium, or strontium. These react with ions in the plasma stream and form a stabilized layer that increases electrical conductivity.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Without stabilizing powder, the plasma stream can become unstable, leading to failures and poor weld quality. The stabilized plasma stream allows precise temperature control and increases weld toughness.
Shop Practice & Operating Instructions
Use the arc-stabilizing powder in the flux-cored wire or welding flux in a ratio of 1 to 2 %. Ensure the exact powder amount is maintained to guarantee optimal plasma stream conduction. If the dose is wrong, the plasma can become unstable and weld quality suffers.
