Liquidus Line

The liquidus line is the temperature where an alloy becomes completely liquid. Below this line the material solidifies. In welding it prevents porosity and ensures a homogeneous melt.

Physical-Chemical Mode of Action

The liquidus line shows the temperature at which all components of an alloy are in liquid form. Below this temperature, the material begins to crystallize.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Below the liquidus line, crystals can form that cause porosity and impair strength. A homogeneous molten phase is essential for a quality weld without defects.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Make sure the weld is kept at a temperature above the liquidus line. This prevents crystal formation and porosity. Monitor melt time and temperature closely.
