Lithium alloy density compensation

Drastically lowers the specific density of metallic materials while simultaneously increasing the elastic modulus in specialty applications.

When welding lithium-containing alloys, you have to be careful that the lithium doesn't burn out. If that happens, the alloy changes and the weld becomes porous or cracks. So weld quickly with as little heat input as possible, then the lithium stays in the melt. Clean shielding gas is a must, otherwise the material will burn in air. After welding, you should check the weld for cracks, because the alloy is sensitive to rapid cooling.
