Brazing flux reducing agent

Brazing flux reducing agent breaks down metal oxides at the joint and removes them, so the filler metal can act on the base material without worry.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Reducing agents react chemically with metal oxides (e.g., Fe2O3) and strip off their oxygen atoms, which breaks up the oxides. This frees a clean surface at the joint for the filler metal.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Without reducing agents, metal oxides can prevent wetting of the base metal and lead to porosity. This can impair the strength of the brazed joint and cause cracking.

Workshop Practice & Operating Instructions

Use reducing agents in brazing fluxes when you want to braze metals with a high oxide content. Make sure that the medium penetrates well into the joint and has sufficient time to reduce the oxides.
