Auxiliary Flux for Soldering and Welding

Brazing and welding fluxes are chemically active substances that dissolve oxides and increase the wettability of the metal surface. They improve the capillary effect and flowability.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Fluxes react chemically with oxides on the metal surface and dissolve them. This allows better wetting of the metal, which strengthens the capillary effect and improves the flow of the weld.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without flux, oxides on the metal surface can cause porosity, which hurts the strength and toughness of the weld. Missing or insufficient flux can also lead to poor wetting, resulting in weak joints and possible cracks.

Workshop Practice & Action Points

Always use flux when preparing metals for joining. Make sure the flux is applied generously and mixed well. If you lack flux or don't have enough, you can improve wetting by adding an extra layer of flux.
