Solderability Testing

The solderability test checks whether a metal or alloy can be joined well with a specific solder. It shows how well the material flows and behaves during deformation.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The solderability test checks how well the metal chemically bonds with the solder. It shows whether the material can be joined well with solder and how it behaves under deformation.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Poor solderability can lead to incomplete joints, which can cause cracks or weak spots in the structure. This can hurt the strength and mechanical behavior of the material.

Workshop Practice & Action Points

For a proper solderability test, you put a piece of metal in a solder solution. The material should dissolve completely within 30 seconds and stay without deformation. If you have problems, you can adjust the flux or the solder to improve solderability.
