Brazed Joint Shear Strength
The solder joint shear strength is the maximum resistance of a soldered joint to tangential forces. It depends on gap width, bonding zone, and porosity level.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Brazed seam shear strength refers to the stress tolerance of the brazed joint against shear forces. This strength is determined by the microscopic structure of the bonding zone and the arrangement of metal and alloy particles.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Low brazed seam shear strength leads to premature failure under mechanical load. This can cause splitting, cracking, or deformation of the brazed joint. A high pore content or an insufficient bonding zone significantly reduces shear strength.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
To increase brazed seam shear strength, it is important to use a clean braze surface and a fine-polished metal. The brazing time should be long enough to create a dense bonding zone, but not too long to promote porosity. An optimal gap width of 0.1 to 0.3 mm is recommended.
