Brazing Gap Tolerance Field
The brazing gap tolerance field specifies the permissible gap width range to ensure capillary forces and shear strength. Deviations lead to air entrapment or incomplete filling.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The brazing gap tolerance determines the optimal gap width to ensure capillary forces and shear strength. Too narrow, the gap is too small for complete filler metal filling, causing air entrapment. Too wide, however, leads to incomplete filling and poorer mechanical properties.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
A gap that is too narrow can cause air entrapment, which leads to porosity and reduced strength. A gap that is too wide prevents complete filler metal filling, resulting in inadequate mechanical strength and potential cracks.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
The brazing gap tolerance should be between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm. If the gap is less than 0.2 mm, air cannot be excluded; if more than 0.5 mm, filling is incomplete. Ensure the gap is precisely set and the filler metal flows completely.
