Solder Shear Creep Resistance
The resistance of a brazed joint against time-dependent, permanently plastic deformation under constant mechanical shear load at elevated temperatures. It is crucial for electronic and thermal power systems.
Creep resistance of solder joints simply means: Does the solder joint hold when it is permanently under mechanical shear load and at elevated temperature? If the solder gives way, the joint deforms slowly, and eventually it breaks or cracks appear. You see this mainly in electronics or components that get warm. To improve it, use a solder designed for higher temperatures and ensure a clean, well-wetted joint. Too much heat during soldering or too rapid cooling leave stresses in the structure that promote creep later. So: work cleanly, don't overheat, and let the component cool slowly.
