Filler Metal Depository

Solder deposit is the targeted preplacement of solder material at the joint to ensure uniform gap filling and avoid over- or under-supply.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The solder reservoir ensures that the solder material is directly available at the joint. This minimizes the time the solder is exposed to air and may evaporate or become contaminated.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Insufficient gap filling can lead to incomplete joints or cracks, while overfilling can result in porosity and reduced mechanical properties of the solder. The solder reservoir helps avoid these issues.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Set the solder reservoir so it sits directly above the gap and the amount of solder material matches the needs of the joint. For high-quality joints, use a precise amount of solder to ensure optimal filling.
