Preformed Solder Ring
A brazing filler deposit preform is a preformed ring or shape of brazing filler metal placed in the joint gap to provide a precise amount of filler and prevent underdosing.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
A solder reservoir insert stores a fixed amount of solder in a closed space. This prevents the solder from escaping or evaporating during the welding process due to air or other materials.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Without a solder reservoir insert, there is a risk of underdosing, leading to insufficient melting and possible joint defects. A faulty insert can also cause irregular solder distribution or overdosing, resulting in porosity or excessive cooling in the weld structure.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
• Use a solder reservoir insert with a volume of at least 10 ml per meter of joint gap.
• Ensure the insert fits exactly in the joint gap and contains no air bubbles.
• Before use, check the insert for damage or holes.
