Solder Segregation Tendency

The separation of individual alloy components during the solidification of a wide melting interval, leading to inhomogeneous microstructures.

Segregation means: during solidification, the alloy components separate and the structure becomes uneven. This often happens with a wide solidification range and can later cause cracks or deformation, especially in rigid parts. Keep the melt as narrow as possible and don't run the heat too high, so that everything crystallizes cleanly. If you control the cooling, the structure stays more homogeneous and you avoid hot cracks.
