MAG Welding Process

A metal active gas welding process utilizing a consumable filler wire with reactive shielding gases or mixtures. It serves for the efficient joining of unalloyed and low-alloy steels.

MAG welding is standard gas metal arc welding with a consumable wire. The shielding gas – usually an active gas mixture – keeps the air away from the weld so the pool doesn't oxidize. If the gas doesn't flow properly or the nozzle is clogged, you get porosity and a weak weld. So make sure the gas flow is correct and the torch is clean. The wire must match the base material, then the weld will be properly strong.
