Magnetic Pulse Welding
Magnetic field-based pulse welding accelerates workpieces with electromagnetic forces to cold weld them. It is a non-contact process with no contact between the parts.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The magnetic field generates an electric voltage in a conductor, which accelerates it. The two workpieces are pressed together at high speed and cold-welded.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Rapid cold welding can lead to fine, homogeneous microstructures, but also to stress buildup and cracks if the speed or material is not optimal. Too high speeds can cause deformation.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use a stabilized magnetic field and suitable conductor materials. Ensure the speed is between 100 m/s and 300 m/s. Continuously monitor temperature and stress field.
