Magnetic Yoke

A magnetization yoke is a device that concentrates and amplifies magnetic field lines between two poles. It is used in welding to magnetize metals, making crack detection easier.

A magnetization yoke creates a magnetic field between its poles, which you use for surface crack testing. When you place the yoke on the workpiece and switch it on, it attracts magnetic particles that gather at defects and make them visible. Make sure the part doesn't stay too strongly magnetized, otherwise it will attract chips during welding and the arc will wander away from you. After testing, you usually need to demagnetize the component before continuing to weld.
