Magnetic Particles
Magnetic particle test media are special substances that show a strong color change in magnetic fields. They are used to detect cracks and defects in metals.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Magnetic particle testing agents consist of fine particles that align with magnetic fields. These particles change color or luminescence when affected by mechanical stresses.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
These testing agents help detect microscopic cracks and flaws in weld areas. A negative result indicates that the weld is stable and has no visible or microscopic defects.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use magnetic particle testing agents after welding, before components are assembled. Sprinkle the testing agent on the area to be tested and apply a magnetic field. Observe the color change or luminescence. A negative result is greenish, while positive (defective) results are reddish.
