Magnetic Pulse Welding
Magnetic pulse compacting is a cold pressing process where electromagnetic forces drive a tube element onto an inner part. The collision energy disrupts surface oxides and forms a metallic bond.
Physical-chemical mechanism of action
Electromagnetic fields move a tubular element rapidly onto an inner part. The collision energy breaks up interface oxides and forms a metallic bond between the materials.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
Wrong settings can lead to incomplete deformation or too much pressure, which can damage the material or cause cracks. Too little compaction can lead to poorer mechanical properties and porosity.
Shop practice & action instructions
Make sure the electromagnetic field is set correctly and the collision energy is kept at the optimal value of 50-70 J/cm². Monitor the temperature in the contact area to ensure even deformation.
