Macroscopic Lack of Fusion Line

Continuous series of un fused regions at the flanks, severely endangering structural integrity.

Lack of fusion occurs when the weld doesn't properly fuse with the base material or the previous pass. This usually happens when the temperature is too low, welding is too fast, or the edges aren't clean enough. That spot is then a weak point that can crack under load. Make sure the weld pool properly wets the edges and fill the weld cleanly, then you won't have this problem.
