Hadfield Steel Cast Structure
The primary solidification structure of un-forged Hadfield steel, which is coarse-grained and rich in carbides. It strictly requires a subsequent heat treatment to dissolve the carbides and achieve ductility.
Manganese hard steel is tempered, not hardened by rapid cooling. The cast structure is hard and tough, but when welding you have to be careful not to overheat the heat-affected zone. Otherwise it will coarsen and become brittle. Weld cold and in short intervals, then the structure stays stable. If you don't control the heat, you'll get cracks, you can save yourself that.
