Hadfield Steel Wear Protection Lining
The use of austenitic manganese steel in crushers and conveyor systems to line impact-loaded areas, where high impact toughness prevents catastrophic fracture under abrasive loads.
Manganese hard steel is a tough, wear-resistant steel that self-hardens under heavy mechanical stress. When welding, be careful not to put too much heat in, otherwise the structure becomes coarse-grained and toughness suffers. Weld cold and in short sections, preferably with intermediate cooling, and use a suitable nickel-containing weld metal. If you want the part to be hard again after welding, you can cold-hammer the weld, which reactivates the hardening.
