Martensite finish temperature

The temperature at which the martensitic microstructural transformation is theoretically fully completed and no further austenite transforms.

Martensite forms when you cool steel with enough carbon too quickly. The structure then becomes glass-hard and brittle, which quickly leads to cracks during welding. So adjust the cooling so the part isn't quenched too sharply. If you let the weld cool slowly, the austenite can transform cleanly and the steel stays tough.
