Metal Active Gas Welding (MAG)

A gas-shielded arc welding process employing a continuously fed wire electrode and an active shielding gas like CO2 or argon-CO2 blends.

MAG welding is welding with a wire electrode under an active shielding gas, usually CO2 or an argon-CO2 mixture. The gas shields the weld pool from the surrounding air. If you cool too fast, the structure becomes hard and cracks can occur. Also make sure enough gas is flowing, otherwise you get pores in the weld.
