Metal Active Gas Welding with Metal Cored Wire
A MAG process utilizing tubular filler wires containing metal powder fillings to increase deposition rates. The core composition optimizes weld penetration and arc stability.
Metal wire is flux-cored wire, not solid wire. The powder inside brings alloying elements and slag formers into the weld zone, which stabilizes the arc and affects penetration. The advantage is higher deposition rate and smoother welding, especially at higher wire feed speeds. Make sure you get the right powder for your base material and shielding gas. If you store the wire incorrectly or the powder gets damp, you'll get porosity in the weld. Otherwise, handling is similar to solid wire, only you don't have to set the parameters as critically.
