Metallic foreign body inclusion

Metallic foreign body inclusion are particles from other metals that are accidentally introduced into the weld bead. They can lead to corrosion and failure of the weld.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Metallic foreign particle inclusions are bits of other metals that get into the weld bead by accident. These particles can react chemically with the weld metal and cause corrosion.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Metallic foreign particle inclusions can lead to corrosion and failure of the weld. They can also mess with the material's mechanical properties, which can cause cracking and failure in service.

Shop Practice & Action Items

Always use clean welding consumables and tools. Clean the joint thoroughly before welding. If you think there might be foreign particle inclusions, do a detailed inspection and remove any unwanted particles.
