Monel

A nickel-copper alloy with high nickel content featuring exceptional resistance to acids and seawater. It is primarily used in marine engineering and the chemical processing industry.

Monel is a nickel-copper alloy with good corrosion resistance, but it can be tricky to weld. You need to keep the weld pool calm and clean, otherwise you'll get porosity or cracks. Use a matching nickel-based filler metal and keep the interpass temperature in check so the grain doesn't grow. Rapid cooling is poison – let the weld cool slowly, then the part stays stable and doesn't distort.
