Nickel-Based Welding Consumable
Nickel-based filler metals are high-alloy fillers used to join dissimilar steels and corrosion-resistant nickel-base alloys. They offer excellent resistance properties.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Nickel-based filler materials contain high-strength material and stabilizing elements such as titanium, aluminum, and copper. They promote melting behavior and prevent the weld pool from spreading excessively. The fillers react with the metals and form a dense weld with high resistance.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Using these fillers improves the strength and corrosion resistance of the joint. However, incorrect use can lead to excess formation or uneven fusion, resulting in cracks or insufficient weld volume. Too high a filler content can also cause grain coarsening and thus reduce toughness.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
Use nickel-based filler materials when joining steels with high carbon content or corrosion-resistant alloys. The filler amount should be set exactly according to manufacturer specifications to ensure an optimal weld. During application, pay attention to proper temperature control and weld pool stability.
