Nickel-Chromium-Iron Oxidation Kinetics

Temporal progression of scaling and layer growth rate on alloy materials under thermal stress in an oxidizing atmosphere.

Nickel-chromium-iron alloys form oxide layers on the surface during welding. That's normal and depends heavily on the alloy and the environment. If it happens too quickly or too strongly, it can ruin the corrosion resistance of the weld and increase the risk of hot cracking. So make sure the weld zone doesn't get unnecessarily hot and stays clean. When annealing or cooling, you just have to pay attention to the right atmosphere so that the protective oxide layer can form properly.
