Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum Alloy
Nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys are high strength and resistant to heat and damage. They are used in heavily loaded machine parts.
Physical-chemical mechanism of action
Nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys contain nickel, chromium, and molybdenum as main alloying elements. These additions improve strength, hardenability, and corrosion resistance of the steel.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
These alloys are particularly susceptible to welding defects such as hot cracking and grain growth. Too fast cooling can lead to hard martensite, while too slow cooling causes grain coarsening and reduced toughness.
Workshop practice & instructions
When welding nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys, use controlled cooling. Keep the cooling time between 15 and 30 seconds to stabilize the microstructure and avoid cracking. Use high-quality filler materials and ensure proper weld preparation.
