Nickel-iron alloy
A special alloy type engineered with targeted magnetic properties, such as high permeability in weak fields. It is used for electrical engineering components and magnetic shields.
Nickel-iron alloys are strongly magnetic and conduct heat well. When welding, you have to be careful not to put too much heat in, otherwise you lose the magnetic properties. Best to weld with argon as shielding gas and let the part cool slowly so the structure stays stable. Use a suitable electrode and keep the voltage low, then the weld will be clean and the material keeps its properties.
