Nickel-Copper Monel Alloy

Solid solution material based on nickel-copper with high resistance to flowing seawater and aggressive chemicals.

Monel is a nickel-copper alloy that is very resistant to seawater and many acids. When welding, you have to be careful that the weld doesn't get too hot, otherwise you'll get hot cracks. The alloy also tends to form a tough oxide layer during welding that you have to grind off beforehand. Best to use a filler material matched to the alloy and keep the interpass temperature low, then the structure will be clean and the weld stays corrosion-resistant.
