Nickel-Molybdenum Corrosion Protection

Nickel-based alloying strategy where high molybdenum contents maximize resistance against reducing acids like hydrochloric acid by suppressing anodic dissolution.

Nickel-molybdenum alloys are the classic choice for strong acids, especially hydrochloric acid. The molybdenum is the key factor – if there's too little of it or you burn it off during welding, you lose the entire corrosion protection and the part will rust away under your hands. When welding, you have to be meticulous about cleanliness and keep the interpass temperature under control. If the material gets too hot, precipitates form that kill the corrosion resistance. If you weld correctly, the weld remains as resistant as the base material.
