Nickel-Molybdenum Stress Corrosion Inhibition
Alloy adjustment with a high molybdenum content in nickel-matrix materials to drastically increase resistance to chloride-induced cracking.
Nickel-molybdenum alloys have good resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. The molybdenum ensures that a stable protective layer forms on the surface, which chlorides cannot easily attack. When welding, you have to be careful not to overheat the alloy or cool it down too slowly. Otherwise, you destroy this protective layer and the risk of cracking increases significantly. Keep the heat input moderate and don't let the part stay too long in the critical temperature range. Also make sure there are no chloride-containing residues on the workpiece that could get into the weld during welding. This will maintain corrosion resistance.
